The FINA World Championships are contested in a long course (50-meter) pool. The event was first held in 1973 and is now held every two years. From 1978-1998, the World Championships were held every four years, in the even years between Summer Olympic years. From 2001 on, the Championships have been held every two years, in the odd years. A total of 2,158 athletes from 167 nations will participate in the 2007 Worlds.
The 4TH Oceania Swimming Championships is being held from June 11–14, 2002 in Nouméa, New Caledonia. All pool swimming competition will be swum in a 50m (long-course) pool. There are 117 swimmers competing from 10 nations.
Last week Mairangi Swim School in Auckland celebrated their 30th birthday and Koru the Kiwi and Education Advisor, Alannah Jury were lucky enough to be there for their special day.
The ninth edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, is to be held in Yokohama International Swimming Pool in Yokohama, Japan, from August 24–29.
The Festival will feature some of the best young male and female athletes from 18 nations including Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and United States of America. There are 1,172 athletes competing in 173 events in 14 sports.
The 2004 Oceania Swimming Championships will feature 134 swimmers from 11 countries, and the USA State of Hawaii. This is the fifth edition of the Championships, and features competitions in: swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming (synchro). The synchro competition will mark the first time the sport has been swum in Fiji.
The 2006 Oceania Swimming Championships are being held from 7-16 July at three locations in Queensland, Australia. This is the sixth edition of the Championships, and features competitions in swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming (synchro).
New Zealand swimmers produced an outstanding second day of the Oceania Swimming Championships in Fiji.
The 2008 Oceania Swimming Championships are being held in New Zealand and feature competition in swimming, open water swimming and synchronized swimming. It is the 7th Oceania Swimming Championships and second time that New Zealand will host the event after playing host to the 2000 Championships.
The 2007 Summer Universiade, also known as the XXIV Summer Universiade, will take place in Bangkok, Thailand. The swimming competition will be from August 9-14 and will consist of 40 long course (50m) events (20 male, 20 female).
Swimming New Zealand is encouraged by both the quality and quantity of performances looking ahead to the Rio Olympics.
Counties Manukau swimmer Daniel Hunter claimed a long-standing national record on the final morning of heats at the 2016 New Zealand Open Swimming Championships.
A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) will compete in 28 sports and 302 events (a total of one event more than the schedule of the 2004 Games) at the 2008 Olympic Games. China is the 22nd nation to host the Olympic Games and the 18th to hold a Summer Olympic Games.
