The start of something extraordinary

Joining A Club

People with disabilities have the same opportunities as their able-bodied peers as part of a mainstream swimming club. However, there are coaches around New Zealand who have additional experience with Para-Swimmers and may have an already established programme for these swimmers.

As a Para-Swimmer you will have the opportunity to participate in both mainstream swim meets as well as specifically designed Para-Swimming programmes where you will swim against those who have a similar classification.

There are two types of memberships you can hold within a club:

  • Club Swimmer - a swimmer whgo can compete at Club and Inter-Club meets in any event. They cannot compete at Regional or National Competitions.
  • Competitive Swimmer - as a competitive swimmer you can compete in Regional and National (or higher) level meets sanctioned by Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) or a Regional Association
