Learning to swim has a range of benefits including improved health and fitness. 

Swimming is a popular activity for disabled adults and children. Some of the benefits swimming can offer are:

  • Fosters physical fitness and motor skill development
  • Improved confidence and comfort in and around the water
  • Ease from tight or painful joints and tendons thanks to water bouyancy


Swimming is great for people of all ages and it is never to late to learn.


The Halberg Disability Sport Foundation's community programme is available to enhance the lives of physically disabled young people by enabling them to participate in sport and recreation. Information about the Activity Fund for financial support can be found here.
