Schools Programme

Schools "Learn to Swim" Programme

Over the years, Wharenui Pool has provided many Christchurch schools with an ongoing programme of lessons tailored to suit the individual needs of students from new entrant to intermediate and beyond.

With many schools no longer able to sustain a pool of their own, outsourcing lessons has become the norm, let us help your school with lessons throughout the year to fit around your curriculum.

We are also available as a venue for your schools swimming sports or other events.

The Team

Jan and her team of ASTA qualified instructors will discuss with you, how best to deliver lessons and teach your students this most vital of skills, from water confidence through to technique and stroke development, for the more experienced student.

Your needs

We cater for special needs and cultural requirements and work alongside your teacher aid's in pool if required. Swimming benefits the physical development of a child and is a vital part of the physical education programme.

What other schools are saying about us...

Glen Taylor, Director of Sport, Medbury School

"Our junior classes use Wharenui for its 'learn to swim' focus. We value the ease from an administration perspective, the quality of instructors, the low teacher/child ratios and the fact that each lesson builds upon the last one. We find it great value for money and would recommend it to any school serious about providing quality learn to swim programmes".

Des Matai, Head of Sport, Cathedral Grammar School

"Our Prep School has been coming to Wharenui since 2004 and we have found the staff friendly and organised. The children have both enjoyed themselves and developed their aquatic skills. The instructors have certainly meet the needs of our pupils. A huge thank you to Jan and her team".

Aaron Richards, Principal, St Patricks School, Bryndwr.

"The school reviewed swimming instruction providers in 2008. Wharenui provided us with a comprehensive swimming programme that had the flexibility to meet the needs of our school timetable. Our school has gone to Wharenui Pool for the last three years and the service provided is very organized, professional and designed to meet the aquatic needs of our students".

Brendan Wright, Deputy PrincipalIlam School.

"Ilam School has a long history of using Wharenui Pool for whole school swimming lessons. Working with Wharenui Pool to organise 500 children through two weeks of daily 30-minute lessons is a challenging organisational task and it has been a pleasure coordinating this with the help of Wharenui Pool staff. Their coaches provide effective swimming tuition and children are quickly grouped so lessons can best meet their needs. Flexibility allows for changes in groupings when needed and as children improve. I would recommend Wharenui Pool as an excellent facility for aquatics education and whole school swimming lessons and would be happy to discuss this with any school considering using the Wharenui Pool facility".
