Swimmers aiming for selection to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games need to complete an athlete application form and submit to Swimming New Zealand by July 1 2015 - as per the nomination criteria. This is the nomination criteria for both pool and open water/marathon swimming and is approved by the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
As such the dates in this are very important and not pliable. After this date, the long lists of athletes and staff along with the application forms have to be submitted to the NZOC from Swimming New Zealand. In the case that you achieve the swimming time set out in the criteria at the qualifying event, but your name is not on that long list, SNZ will not be able to nominate you to the NZOC. The NZOC will then not be able to select you to attend the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.
