The start of something extraordinary

Spotlight on Quality Swim Schools - Flyers Swim School & Squad

Flyers Swim School is a long standing swim school in central Taranaki, based out of the TSB Pool Complex in Stratford.

Becoming a Swimming New Zealand Quality Swim School back in 2007, they have continued to grow and develop over the last eight years.

Aimee Woodhead, who took on the role of head coach a year ago from Clive Wheeler, has an excellent team of instructors in both the squad and the learn to swim sessions.

The instructors and coaches are qualified with Swimming New Zealand with nationally recognised qualifications and they continually up skill to ensure swimmers receive the best training and instruction.

The Flyers Swim School offers many benefits to swimmers and their families in the community. A popular and well developed Aquatots programme leads into learn to swim classes where the focus is on small groups and quality technique.

One of the strengths of the programme is the support, encouragement and technique development, along the pathway for swimmers to progress through the non-competitive squads and become competitive for Stratford Swimming Club.

Recently Flyers Swim Squad attended the Mayfair Pools New Zealand Age Group Championships held in Wellington.

Two national age group records and five Taranaki records were broken by the squad.

Chris Johnson won a total of three gold, three silver and one bronze while Joshua Gilbert won five gold and one bronze medal to help The Flyers Squad place 16th overall.

This is an outstanding achievement from a group of ten swimmers, from a small town in New Zealand. Joshua Gilbert also won a bronze medal at the Australian Age Group Championships in April.

The passion and dedication to swimming shown by Aimee and her instructors is evident by the increasing number of children being enrolled in the swim school, the growth of the Stratford Swim Club and the success the team is having at both local and national level.
