The start of something extraordinary

Makara Model School enjoy another season of swimming

Kiwi Swim Safe School of the Year for 2014, Makara Model School, have recently enjoyed another successful swimming season.

The small Wellington school had a lot of new students start at their school this year and they quickly passed their passion for swimming on to these new students.

Swimming New Zealand Education Advisor Sarah Gibbison recently visited the school where she was greeted with students eager to show off their new skills while teachers buzzed about how much their students had improved.

The students will soon be awarded with their Kiwi Swim Safe achievement certificates to acknowledge these new skills and improvements.

Students at Makara Model School use the school pool most days during the summer and sometimes are in the water twice a day.

With so much time spent in the water the school have been enjoying new pool toys to support their swimming including rubber ducks and sinking creatures.

To cap off their swimming season the school held their annual swimming carnival for parents to attend and see what their children have been working on.

Principal Gail Dewar said the event was very well supported by parents and the local community.
