The start of something extraordinary

PR 52 - Welland (CAN) welcomes 130 young swimmers for inaugural edition

Lausanne (SUI), August 17, 2012 - More than 130 swimmers from 31 countries are meeting in Welland (Ont., CAN), host of the first-ever international youth-dedicated open water swimming competition – the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships – taking place from August 16-19, 2012.

The competition programme includes three events and competitors are divided in two age groups: 14 to 16 year-old men and women will enter a 5km race while the 17 to 18 year-old swimmers will take the plunge for a 7.5km effort. A 3km Team Event (entered by three swimmers for one team) will also be organised for both age categories.

FINA now organises World Junior Championships in its five aquatic disciplines.
