The start of something extraordinary

Koru visits Taranaki

Koru has been visiting the Taranaki region for the past three weeks spending time with local swim schools, spreading his learn to swim and water safety messages.

Koru spent several afternoons at the TSB Pool in Stratford with two learn to swim schools - Flyers Swim School and Silver Jets Swim School. He also attended the Stratford Swimming Club night where he gave prizes to the winners of a colouring competition. Prizes were donated by State Insurance and Aqualine.

Koru visited the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre enjoying his time with all the Secondary School Winter Tournament teams coming in for a swim during the learn to swim lessons. He also gave prizes out to the winners of the Koru Water Safety Quiz and Colouring Competition.

Some South Taranaki schools were lucky to have Koru visit with water safety activities for the children to complete. Those schools included Hawera Christian School, Pembroke School, Patea Area School, St Josephs Patea School, Mokoia School, Waverley School and Tawhiti School. Children were introduced to dry land exercises to help strengthen muscles used when swimming, fitting life jackets, and group scenarios where each group had to plan their survival strategy.
