The start of something extraordinary

Porirua schools gain interest in swimming action

Planning for the 2015 Porirua City School Swimming Sports is underway after its successful debut last year.

The swimming sports are split between the Porirua cluster and Parumoana cluster with each school cluster entering students in the year 5 -6 and year 7 – 8 categories with events in all four strokes and a school relay.

Work between Swimming New Zealand, Swimming Wellington, DASH Swim School and Porirua City Aquatics (PCA) is underway to organise this year’s events to be held in September.

Last year’s inaugural cluster events were a great success with approximately 17 schools participating and about 15 children going on to join PCA.

The planning group are expecting even more numbers this year with many more schools showing an interest in the event.

The meets are run with the use of meet manager and include many PCA parents and members volunteering their time to help it all run smoothly on the day.

A trophy is awarded for each age group to the school with the highest overall points in each cluster. Last year’s trophy winners were Titahi Bay School, Rangikura School and Plimmerton School.

Spot prizes are also handed out to students who display good attitudes and effort.
