SNZ supports nannies in training

A group of nannies at the New Zealand Career College have recently completed an education course with Swimming New Zealand.

Each year Swimming New Zealand works with the two intakes of nannies at the college to make sure they have the aquatic skills and knowledge to support them in looking after young children in and around the water.

The nannies all study at the Wellington based college before heading off to cities around the country and to other parts of the world to pursue their careers.

From the one day course they learn about drowning statistics, hazards in the home and community and the importance of 100% supervision.

The course includes a theory session followed up by a pool session where the nannies get the opportunity to learn basic water games and activities to build water confidence and floating skills.

These activities also allow them to go away with new ideas on how to make bath and swimming time fun for the families they will go on to work with.

The next course with the College will take place in November this year.
