World championship team in action this weekend

The team to compete at the 16th FINA World Championships will be in action across a number of meets over the next few days as part of their preparation for Kazan.

Lauren Boyle, Glenn Snyders and Corey Main are competing in the 2015 Arena Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara with Lauren the first of the Kiwi’s to take to the water today in the 1500m freestyle.

Boyle finished first in 16:03.73, the third fastest time produced in the world this year.

A group of thirteen swimmers are in Townsville, Australian competing in the Australian Grand Prix 2. This includes World Championship team members Nathan Capp, Bradlee Ashby, Bobbi Gichard, Matthew Stanley and Emma Robinson.

Joining them is University Games swimmers Ewan Jackson, Helena Gasson, Shaun Burnett, Alex Peach, Daniel Hunter and Samantha Lee as well as 2014 Junior Pan Pacific swimmers Andrew Trembath, George Schroder and Liam Albery.

Also in action over the weekend are world championship open water swimmers Kane Radford and Charlotte Webby.

Radford and Webby are in Hungary for the fifth leg of the FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup before also competing in the next leg in Portugal in a week’s time.

They are joined by New Zealand Open Water champion Penny Hayes, Phillip Ryan and Troy Balvert.

The race on Saturday will see the Kiwi swimmers go up against a world class field of 59 athletes in the men’s event and 32 in the women’s event.
