The start of something extraordinary

Glenview students swim safe

The winter weather doesn’t deter students from Glenview School in Porirua, Wellington from learning to swim.

Students have one lesson each week all year round, walking to and from Cannons Creek Pool for their lessons no matter the weather.

A Kiwi Swim Safe School for the past four years they have embraced the use of the resources available to them through the programme to assist in their swim teaching.

The teachers teach basic learn to swim progression and water safety to their students through songs, games and effective use of equipment.

For the students that consistently swim during the term they are rewarded with a fun swim at the end of each term.

With their students making great progress in the water the school recently added their first team to the Porirua cluster swimming sports event and plan to enter the next event in September this year.

Glenview School has approximately 75 students from Years 1-6 and were finalists for the Kiwi Swim Safe School of the Year in 2013.
