Auckland swimmer Georgia Marris will be chasing a place in the final on the fifth day of World University Games in Korea.
Marris, from the United club in Auckland and on scholarship at the University of Florida, has qualified for tonight’s semi-finals of the 200m freestyle.
After a strong lead-out performance in yesterday’s final of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay, Marris backed up with a solid 2:03.01 effort in the heats of the 200m freestyle this morning (local time).
She was the 14th fastest to qualify for the semi-final, with the knowledge that she has swum three seconds faster in her personal best at the New Zealand Open Championships in April.
Marris is one of two Kiwi swimmers on the evening programme tonight with Howick Pakuranga’s Daniel Hunter in action in the 100m freestyle final.
Earlier Shaun Burnett (North Shore, Massey University) was 27th in heats of the 100m butterfly in 55.44; Caroline Baddock (North Shore, Auburn University) was 20th in the 50m backstroke in a personal best 29.45; Alex Peach (United, Delta State University) was 35th in the 50m breaststroke in 29.14 and Michael Mincham (Waterhole, AUT) was 15th in the 1500m freestyle heats in 16:04.72.
The pool competition continues until Friday (local time) with the 10km open water swim competition at Lake Regatta, Jangseongho on Saturday.
