The New Zealand women’s medley relay swim team has qualified for the final on the last day of pool competition at the World University Games in Korea.
The quartet of Caroline Baddock, Natasha Lloyd, Helena Gasson and Laura Quilter qualified sixth fastest in the 4x100m medley relay in 4:08.22, under their combined times from the national championships in April.
They were led with a 1:022.28 effort in the backstroke by Baddock, a 1:10.16 leg by breaststroker Lloyd, Gasson went under the one minute mark with a 59.57 in the butterfly with Quilter home in 56.36 in the anchor freestyle leg.
USA led qualifiers with a 4:03.03 effort from Japan (4:04.15) and Italy (4:04.51).
The men’s team, with freestyler Daniel Hunter swimming the backstroke leg, clocked 3:46.02 in the 4x100m medley relay, which was 11th fastest meaning they did not progress to the final.
The swimming competition finishes with Kane Radford and Philip Ryan competing in the 10km open water swim at Jangseongho Lake Resort tomorrow.
