The start of something extraordinary

Maranui club night shows off swimming talent

Based at the Freyberg Pool in Wellington the Maranui Swimming Club recently held their club night where Swimming New Zealand Education Advisor Sarah Gibbison was invited to attend.

Sarah was left impressed by the standard of swimming at the club, especially with the talents of those in the backstroke and breaststroke events.

Maranui is run by volunteers and has approximately 100 members. They also have a close affiliation to Maranui Surf Lifesaving Club and feed swimmers between the two clubs.

Many of the coaches at Maranui have received swim teacher qualifications through Swimming New Zealand and currently have some working towards their School Age and Adult NZSCT qualification.

Maranui truly display a passion for swimming and getting children participating. The club night recognised the effort of all swimmers who took part and had a go.

The club also receives great parent support with many helping out as time keepers and administrators on the night which all adds to the event being a well organised and fun event for all.
