Auckland swimmer Gabrielle Fa’amausili is in for a busy programme in the penultimate day of competition at the FINA World Junior Championships in Singapore.
The 15 year old from the United club has qualified for the semifinal of the 50m freestyle but will also contest the final of the 50m backstroke.
Fa’amausili was 12th fastest in heats of the 50m freestyle in 26.07s, which was 0.4s outside her previous best, to move through to the semifinal.
“It felt alright out there and I felt quite strong but I mucked up the finish but I have a chance to fix that tonight,” Fa’mausili said.
“I am excited to race both events tonight and see what I can do.”
Earlier North Shore’s Yeonsu Lee clocked 1:03:13 to be 33rd in heats of the 100m butterfly, just outside her previous best.
“I felt pretty good in warm-up and I was expecting something good but I felt tired and was a bit disappointed. “
She had no time to dwell on that performance, competing in the 50m freestyle heats where she was timed at 27.08s to be 31st fastest.
The fifth World Junior Swimming Championships, staged at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, runs until tomorrow.
