Sacred Heart Girls Swimming Awards

SNZ Education Adviser, Cecilie Elliott was invited to Sacred Heart Girls’ College New Plymouth school assembly last week to present several sports certificates.

Specifically acknowledge Sasha Reid who won gold in the girls’ 13yr 200m backstroke at the NZ Secondary School Swimming Championships. She set a Taranaki record for this event, as well as winning a silver medal in the 200m individual relay. 

Sacred Heart Girls’ College acknowledge any student who makes a national team or who have received medals at a national event by receiving a rose and standing on stage while the whole school sing “Manawa Tapu” (the Sacred Heart song). 

Cecilie felt privileged to be asked to go back to Sacred Heart Girls’ College as she worked there for 7 years as Sports Co-ordinator and enjoyed seeing familiar faces both with staff and the students.  She said “This is a fantastic achievement for Sasha, and shows her dedication and commitment to swimming.  It will be exciting to see what she will do in the future.
