Officials Appointed to Rio

Three Swimming New Zealand officials have been appointed as Technical Officials for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

 

Paul Matson (Wellington), Lesley Huckins and Ron Clarke(both Christchurch) have been appointed to the FINA panel for Rio.

 

Paul was a technical official in open water competition at the world championships in Shanghai (2011) and Barcelona (2013) and was a former open water swimmer.

 

He is heavily involved in the Wellington sporting community including board member and treasurer of Swimming Wellington.

 

Paul is the son of the late Bill Matson, who was a Vice-president of FINA and SNZ Life member.

 

Ron has officiated at two junior world championships in Peru (2011) and Dubai (2013) and is currently on the executive of the Oceania Swimming Association, the Aquatics New Zealand Board and on the SNZ Technical Advisory Committee.

 

Lesley has recently been elected as the President of Swimming New Zealand. She has been actively involved in the administration, coaching and officiating for over 30 years after early life as a competitive swimmer. Lesley is on the FINA Technical Swimming Committee and was one of four senior referees at this year’s FINA World Swimming Championships in Russia.
