PR 18 - 10km World Cup 2013: Reichert (GER) and Cunha (BRA) capture gold in Eilat

Lausanne (SUI), March 4, 2013 – The city of Eilat (ISR) welcomed 65 participants (33 men and 32 women) from 16 countries on March 1 for the third leg of the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2013.

Christian Reichert (GRE), who finished second of the 2012 World Cup series, took out the men’s race in 1h53m29s50. Reichert beat compatriot and 2012 Olympic silver medallist over the distance Thomas Lurz, second with a time of 1h53m34s05. Rounding out the podium was Alexander Meyer (USA), clocking 1h53m38s00.

2012 World Cup winner Ana Marcela Cunha (BRA) was the best among women after powering home and racing for the win in a time of 2h02m53s15. The Brazilian improves from a second-place finish in Viedma (ARG, Race 2). German Isabelle Harle’s silver medal was the positive discovery of the competition. Harle crossed the line at 2h02m53s40 which led to her first podium appearance in the World Cup series while 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Martina Grimaldi from Italy touched home exactly two seconds later for the bronze (2h02m55s40).
