PR 47 - FINA Doping Panel Decision: Mr. Mads Glaesner (DEN)

Lausanne (SUI), June 17, 2013 – On December 14, 2012 the swimmer Mads Glaesner (DEN) was tested positive to the substance Levmetamfetamine (Class S.6.b Specified Stimulants) following a doping control test conducted with the occasion of the 11th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) held in Istanbul (TUR).

The FINA Doping Panel conducted a hearing, in presence of the athlete and his lawyer, on June 14, 2013 and decided the following:

1. In accordance to FINA DC Rule 10.4 to impose on the athlete a period of three months ineligibility, starting on March 19, 2013 (date of his provisional suspension);

2. In accordance to FINA DC Rules 9 and 10.1, to disqualify all results achieved by the swimmer from the date of the test (December 14, 2012). Consequently, the bronze medal won on December 14, 2012 in the men’s 400m free, and the gold medal won on December 16, 2012 in the men’s 1500m free are forfeited.

The new classification of these two events at the 11th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Istanbul 2012, is then established as follows:

In accordance to FINA DC Rule 13, the athlete may file an appeal to the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) within 21 days from the date of receipt of the FINA Doping Panel decision.
