PR 60 - World Swimming Championships (25m): Major 2014 competition will be held from December 3-7

Barcelona (ESP), August 3, 2013 - FINA has established the dates of the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), taking place in Doha (QAT) from December 3-7, 2014. This event, the major FINA rendezvous in 2014, will gather more than 900 athletes from over 170 nations, and will include two major novelties in the competition programme: the 4x50m free and medley relays, and the 4x50m free and medley mixed relays.

A delegation of the Doha 2014 Organising Committee was in Barcelona (ESP) to promote and to have fruitful meetings with the Organisng Committee of the 15th FINA World Championships being held in the Catalan capital until August 4.

Led by Khaleel Al Jabir, Qatar Swimming Federation President and Doha 2014 CEO, the Doha representatives met with the FINA Executive and were able to mobilise the media to attend the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in December 2014.

“We will have a great edition of the Championships in Doha. The authorities of Qatar have set-up outstanding facilities and all the participants in the competition – athletes, officials, partners and media – will have excellent conditions to perform their duties. Doha has been very active in developing Sport and the FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) will definitively be an excellent vehicle to enhance even more the promotion of Aquatics in Qatar and in the entire Middle East region”, considered FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.

“Doha 2014 has already started its preparation, with all our plans, programmes and designs focused in the Athletes. We are working as a team, and in close collaboration with FINA, in order to deliver a memorable event that will excite and further promote the sport of Aquatics. Swimming is a show and should continue to be”, said Mr. Khaleel Al Jabir.

Some days before the start of the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships, Doha will also stage, from November 29 to December 1, the third edition of the FINA World Aquatics Convention, where the protagonists of the Aquatic Family have the opportunity to exchange ideas and to meet the representatives of sport business companies interested in getting connected with the FINA aquatic world.
