PR 66 - 10km World Cup 2013: World champions Grimaldi (ITA) and Lurz (GER) win in Lac Megantic

Lausanne (SUI), August 12, 2013 – After taking second (in Eilat and Cozumel) and third (in Viedma), 25km World champion Thomas Lurz (GER) won his first race of the 2013 World Cup circuit in Lac Megantic (CAN), clocking 2h15m35s, on August 10. The German great was closely followed by compatriot Christian Reichert (first in Eilat), who touched the wall at 2h15m36s. Brazilian Samuel de Bona placed third in 2h15m38s, making his first World Cup podium appearance of the season.

25km World champion Martina Grimaldi from Italy took out the women's race in 2h26m52s. This is the second victory for the Italian swimmer, after winning in Cozumel and finishing third in Eilat. Christine Jennings (USA) was runner-up in 2h26m53s. This is the first World Cup podium finish for the American in this year’s series. Teammate Emily Brunemann, who has won the Santos, Viedma and Lac St.-Jean races so far, completed the race in 2h26m55s to secure the minor medal.

A total 22 men and 15 women from eight countries took part in the event, which was the sixth leg of the FINA 10km Marathon World Cup 2013.
