The start of something extraordinary

Clinic brings 16 swim coaches to Palmerston North

No matter the code, coaches are an invaluable part of any sport.

Swimming Manawatu hosted a Swimming New Zealand (SNZ) Teacher of Competitive Strokes (TOCS) Course at the Lido Aquatic Centre in Palmerston North last weekend which was run by SNZ High Performance Development Coach Donna Bouzaid.

Sixteen coaches from the Manawatu, Wellington and Rangitikei regions attended the day long classroom and poolside course designed to enable them to better coach competitive swimmers.

The day also required swimmers from local clubs to come along and help out. The twelve swimmers, from Ashhurst Aquanauts, Dannevirke ASC, Dolphin ASC and Palmerston North ASC, gained valuable insights from participating in the day’s events.

Swimmers and coaches alike learned many things during these sessions all of which will be passed on to the swimmers in their trust when they head back to their clubs.

With the summer season underway one of the discussion topics was around the significant difference in the levels of fitness required to compete successfully in a 25m pool, with frequent turns and pushes off the walls, and that are required to be successful in the longer 50m pool.
