The start of something extraordinary

Raravula Awarded Prestigious Scholarship

Melita Raravula has been awarded a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship for 2014. The number and calibre of applications was high, but Melita’s success both in and out of the pool resulted in her being offered a place in the programme that educates future leaders at the University of Waikato within the values of New Zealand’s greatest adventurer, Sir Edmund Hillary. We are all inspired by the view that “Together, we believe the impossible is a summit to be conquered”.

Sir Edmund Hillary Scholars must excel in academia, leadership, and sports, or creative and performing arts.  Various professional development opportunities and fees support are provided for Scholars.

The Hillary Programme enhances scholar’s success through relationships with regional, national, and international partners and sponsors. The Programme that started in 2005 commits to successful Scholars for their period of study at the University of Waikato.

Raravula, of Northwave swim club, is currently ranked seventh in New Zealand in the 200m Butterfly. She was selected for the national teams to compete at the Trans-Tasman Tri Series in July 2012 and the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January 2013 where she placed seventh in the final of the 200m Butterfly and achieved a top 16 placing in the 100m butterfly and 400m individual medley respectively.
