Boyle, Burnett on podium in Queensland

New Zealand swimmers Lauren Boyle and Shaun Burnett got on to the podium on day three of the Queensland Swimming Championships at the Sleeman Swimming Centre in Brisbane.

Boyle, who has recently returned from a demanding training stint at altitude in Spain, finished second in the 800m freestyle in 8:22.75 behind Jessica Ashwood (8:21.95).

Queensland based Burnett clocked 1:59.82 to finish third in the men’s 200m butterfly.

He is closing in towards the qualifying standard of 1:56:97 he will need at the New Zealand Opens to qualify for nomination to the Rio Olympics.

Other New Zealand finalists included Emma Robinson (Capital) who was seventh in the 800m freestyle (8:43.16); Samantha Lee (Capital) eighth in the 200m butterfly (2:15.81); Isaac Foote (Masterton) seventh in the men’s 200m butterfly (2:01.75) and William Campbell (Wharenui) 10th in the 200m backstroke (2:10.22).
