More success for age group swimmers in Australia

Age group swimmers at both the Queensland Championships and Victorian Age Group Championships reached the podium in the latest day of racing.

Leading the way in Queensland was Capital swimmer Hamish Trlin who was second in the 17-18 years 200m breaststroke in 2:23.14.

Ruby Adsett from Napier Aquahawks was third in the 15 years 400m freestyle in 4:24.93 with Mya Rasmussen (Kiwi West Aquatics) fifth in 4:25.86.

A busy day for Adsett saw her place fourth in the 800m freestyle with Alex Pampalone (Karori Pirates) seventh in the 17-18 years event in 9:25.69.

Rasmussen also found herself with a busy schedule placing ninth in the 100m breaststroke in 1:18.63.

Other finalists included Chelsey Edwards (SwimZone Racing) who was fifth in the 14 years 100m freestyle in 58.73; Thomas Wilson (QEII) sixth in the 15 years 400m freestyle (4:12.72); Tom Berry (SwimZone Racing) eighth in the 15 years 1500m freestyle (17:43.58); Maggie Burns (Capital) eighth in the 17-18 years 200m freestyle (2:09.22) and Matthew Hyde (Matamata) eighth in the 17-18 years 200m freestyle (1:55.93).

Rotorua’s Bianca Donnelly continued her winning ways at the Victorian Age Group Championships in Melbourne touching first in the 13 years 100m freestyle in 59.60.

Fourteen year old Joshua Gilbert (Stratford) clocked 1:06.45 to be first home in the 100m breaststroke and set a New Zealand age group record while Thomas Griffin (St Paul’s) was first in the 13 years 200m butterfly in 2:21.54.

Boys 13 200m butterfly: Thomas Griffin (St Paul’s) 2:21.54, 1.

Girls 17-18 200m medley: Eleanor Wilding (Wharenui) 2:32.18, 10.

Boys 14 400m freestyle: Lochlainn O’Connor (Greerton) 4:20.03, 5.

Girls 16 200m breaststroke: Lucy Gordon (Aquagym) 2:42.30, 2.

Girls 15 400m medley: Aimee Daniels (Aquabladz) 5:17.79, 3; Grace Soo Choon (Hillcrest) 5:19.71, 4.

Boys 15 400m medley: Jordan Wilson (Parnell) 4:42.88, 3; Hadlee Dyer (Napier Aquahawks) 4:56.19, 7.

Girls 13 100m freestyle: Bianca Donelley (Rotorua) 59.60, 1.
