Canterbury swimmer top in Queensland

Canterbury swimmer Thomas Wilson led the way on day four of the Queensland Championships at the Sleeman Swimming Centre in Brisbane.

Wilson (QEII) was first in the 15 years 100m backstroke in 1:01.17 to add to his bronze medal performance in the 200m backstroke earlier in the week.

Hamish Trlin (Capital) was fifth in the 17-18 years 200m medley while Bruin Maunder (Napier Aquahawks) also picked up a fifth place finish in the 16 years 200m breaststroke (2:25.31).

Other finalists in Queensland were Maggie Franks who was sixth in the 15 years 100m backstroke (1:06.52) and Ruby Matthews who was ninth in the 16 years 200m breaststroke (2:49.12).

Bianca Donnelly (Rotorua) was the standout on the penultimate day of the Victorian Age Group Championships with two gold medal performances.

Donnelly was first home in the 13 and under 400m freestyle (4:37.21) before returning to the pool to win the 13 years 50m freestyle (27.90).

Fifteen year old Zac Reid (Aquabladz New Plymouth) also enjoyed success with a win in the 200m freestyle touching in 1:56.63.

Boys 14 100m backstroke: Matthew Meuli (Aquabladz) 1:04.82, 6.

Boys 15 200m freestyle: Zac Reid 1:56.63, 1; Matthew Harford (Wharenui) 2:02.69, 9.

Boys 16 100m butterfly: Satori Dobbie (Jasi) 56.65, 2.

Boys 16-18 1500m freestyle: Tom Moulder 16:28.40, 2; Thomas Raymond 16:33.53, 3.

Boys 14 400m medley: Joshua Gilbert (Stratford) 4:46.31, 2; Lochlainn O’Connor (Greerton) 4:54.06, 6.

Boys 15 200m breaststroke: Zarhn Collins (Stratford) 2:37.20, 8.

Girls 16-18 800m freestyle: Eleanor Wilding (Wharenui) 9:26.31, 8.
