Flash Result - Day 3 FINA World Championships Update

Lauren Boyle has claimed her second bronze medal with a remarkable swim in the 1500m freestyle on day three of finals at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona today.

Boyle produced a stunning 15:44.71, just outside the old world record, to win the bronze medal behind American Katie Ledecky who set a new world record of 15:36.53 after a dogfight with Denmark’s Lotte Friis.

Boyle has taken more than 30 seconds off her previous best over the 1500m over her heat and final.

Earlier Glenn Snyders qualified for the final of the 50m breaststroke after finishing third in his semifinal in 27.22, to be the sixth fastest into tomorrow night’s final.

Gareth Kean finished eighth in the final of the 100m backstroke in 54.25, and fellow Wellington swimmer Samantha Lucie-Smith eighth in her semifinal of the 200m freestyle.
