2016 Short n Sweet Fun Meet
165 Swimmers joined us for our annual Fun Meet at the Thames Centennial Pools. Our youngest swimmer was Ellie Hanner (5) from Whangamata Swim Club racing in the 25m Freestyle and it was great to see Wyatt McCullum (19) back swimming in his home pool. Still showing us how to smash a Breastroke race. This year, with the help of NZCT funding the Thames Swim Club have purchased Electronic Timing Pads and this was the first time they were used. After a few minor ‘teething’ problems they made the days recording of results fast, accurate and less hectic.
Congratulations to the following Age Group winners:
Our Patrons, Max and Carol Bosselmann proudly presented the age group winners with ‘Winning Towels’. It was also a chance for the Thames Swim Club to celebrate their swimmers who had qualified for National Events. Luke Bowman and Lucas Dowty (NZ Juniors), Chloe Green, Caitlyn De Groen and Tash Cook (NZ Div II) and Keegan Dufty (NAGS) each received a Nationals Hoodie from the Club.
Thames Valley Swim Academy were able to also present their swimmers with National Qualifiers T-Shirts. These swimmers train in their own pools during the summer and travel to the Thames pool twice a week during the winter months. This is the second year of running the Academy and we are delighted with the results, Tayla Taupaki (Whangamata), Jayde Hanner (Whangamata), Callum Fulton (Whangamata), Ella Tomkin (Mercury Bay), Tash Cook (Thames), Caitlyn De Groen (Thames), Chloe Green (Thames) and Lucas Dowty (Thames) are all competing in NZ Juniors or NZ Div II.
