Six of the Best for Teenage Swimming Prospects

It was six of the best for teenage swimmers Campbell Kershaw and Hayley Miller after the third day of the State New Zealand Division II Competition in Invercargill tonight.

The pair have won six gold medals each so far in the competition for swimmers 13 to 18 years held at the Splash Palace pool.

Miller, 13, from the Ace club in Hamilton, won two further gold medals tonight in the 800m freestyle and 100m freestyle along with a silver medal in the 50m backstroke.

Kershaw, 15, from the North Canterbury club, earned two gold medals in the 100m freestyle and 400m individual medley to take his tally to six.

In the boys’ competition Shawn O’Hara from Levin leads the way with eight medals overall after three days, one ahead of Kershaw and Kieran Swords from Bream Bay club in Northland.

In the girls, Devon Familton from Neptune club in Dunedin shares the honours with Miller as the leading individuals with seven medals, one ahead of Braidy Lidington (Hillcrest).

Bream Bay club in Northland extended their lead in the team competition. The small nine-strong team recorded six gold medals tonight from Swords, 13 year old Turanga Morgan-Edmonds, Dylan Sims, Emma Wickham and Elijah Purnell. They have 910 points to lead Jasi (Christchurch) on 821, Wharenui (Christchurch) 510, Ace (Hamilton) 472 and North Canterbury 451.

The competition finishes tomorrow.
