The start of something extraordinary

Waikato junior Champs meet report

Waikato Junior Champs Meet Report

To wrap up the summer season for our junior swimmers the Waikato Junior Champs were held at WaterWorld in Hamilton. We had a strong team of 17 competing ranging from Development squad swimmers right up to AGP swimmers. For many, this meet was a chance to improve their XLR8 points as they made PBs in selected races. For more information on this initiative by Swimming Waikato check out their website http://www.swimmingwaikato.co.nz

Over the weekend we gained a total of 19 medals with our Top 3 point scorers being Hannah Morgan, Kurtis McCarthy and Kaatia Heretini. We also had two swimmers selected for the Adam & Eve relay on the second day. The results from the 50m free are taken and the top 8 male and female swimmers are paired up to swim a 2x50m free relay. Kaatia Heretini and her partner from Ace Swimming Club managed 2nd getting a silver medal and Francesca Pollock was not far behind with her partner. It was a great experience for both girls getting to know swimmers from other clubs.

This was a great wrap up for the junior summer season and the kids all worked really hard for their fantastic results. Fear not, this is never the end! We now head into the Swimming Waikato “blackout development period” for all 12/u swimmers. Over this period there are development camps that swimmers are selected to attend as well as relay meets for swimmers to maintain their competitive skills. Stay posted on our Facebook page and website for more information about this.
