Talbot will begin a new position created by New South Wales Institute of Swimming and Sydney University starting in January 2013.
Swimming New Zealand said they are disappointed to lose Talbot but wish him well for the future.
“Scott was a fine Olympian in the pool for New Zealand and moved immediately into coaching and ultimately into Swimming New Zealand’s High Performance Centre,” said Mark O’Connor, acting chief executive, Swimming New Zealand.
“We saw his undoubted potential and supported his development into the Coach Accelerator Programme.
“Scott is young for an international coach and the opportunity to develop his skill-set with an overseas role will no doubt benefit his growth as a swim coach.”
The organisation will cater for the needs of the swimmers currently under Talbot’s guidance and expects the new high performance director will play a key role in making these arrangements.
Swimming New Zealand expects to be in a position to announce a new high performance director before the end of the year.
Talbot was a two-time Olympian at Athens and Sydney and former national backstroke record-holder.
