Main goes under Rio Olympic qualifying mark

Howick Pakuranga swimmer Corey Main has gone under the qualifying standard in the 100m backstroke on the second day heats of the Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto.

The Canadian Trials is the second official trial for New Zealand swimmers to meet the qualifying times for the Rio Olympics.

Main, who attends the University of Florida, clocked 54.27s to be third fastest in the heats. This is under the FINA A time of 54.36s.

He is the only New Zealand swimmer to go under a qualifying time after two days of the eight-day meet.

There are 13 New Zealand swimmers competing in Toronto.
