Waikato swimmer Sam Perry was the best of the New Zealand swimmers on the fourth day of the Canadian Olympic Trials in Toronto.
The Canadian Trial is the second official trial for New Zealand swimmers to meet the qualifying times to be considered for the Rio Olympics.
Perry, who is on scholarship at Stanford University, was the fastest of the Kiwis in the 100m freestyle when he clocked 49.51s in the heat. It was just half a second outside the qualifying standard for the Rio Olympics.
The St Peters club swimmer went on to finish third in the B Final in 49.73.
Earlier Perry led four Kiwi swimmers in the 100m freestyle heats with Corey Main clocking 49.99, Alex Hancock 50.95 and Bayley Main 52.09.
In other swims Grace Sommerville won the B final of the 200m butterfly in 2:15.92 with Elizabeth Brown third in 2:17.30. Sommerville had an arduous day to be timed at 9:16.19 in the 800m freestyle.
To date Corey Main and Matthew Hutchins have gone under the Rio Olympic qualifying standards with two days remaining.
Tomorrow the kiwis in action include Hancock, Perry and Mick Litherland in the 100m butterfly, Corey Main and younger brother Bayley in the 200m backstroke, Natasha Lloyd in the 200m breaststroke with Hutchins and Kevin Litherland in the 1500m freestyle.
The meet concludes on Monday (NZ time).
