The start of something extraordinary

Water confidence to competitive strokes in one day

Two very successful Swimming New Zealand education courses were held on the same day following the recent NZ Swim Teachers and Coaches 2016 Conference.

The Early Childhood Swim Teacher Award (ECSTA) course and Teacher of Competitive Strokes (TOCS) courses were held at the Rotorua Aquatic Centre, with participants coming from all over the area including, Rotorua, Tauranga, Hamilton, Taupo and Waipukarau.

Everyone at the courses was able to take away new learnings and itching to put it into practice at their swim school and club.

The ECSTA participants had a great time learning about the development of under 5s and how that transfers in aquatic environments.

There were great discussions on the day and brilliant understanding of concepts, especially approaching under 5s with a holistic approach, with everyone also thoroughly enjoying the pool session.

ESTCA participant Anne Keene said “Thank you for a great course…I have come away with a huge amount of new knowledge and understanding.”

The TOCS course was delivered by Graham Smith, Head Coach of St Pauls Swimming Club, and also left participants with great new skills and knowledge gained.

“The presenter was amazing,” said one of the participants Amanda Ottesen. “Just wished we had more time to pick his brain!”

Thanks to the support of Bronwen Radford and the swimmers from Swim Rotorua for being there on the day and helping out.
