The start of something extraordinary

Boyle produces solid warm-up effort in Brisbane

Lauren Boyle produced a solid second placing in the 800m freestyle at the Australian Grand Prix in Brisbane.

In her first competitive outing for three months, Boyle clocked 8:25.62, similar to her qualifying performance at the national championships.

The world championship silver medallist finished second to Australia’s Jessica Ashwood, who was coming off strong recent competition in USA.

Boyle started conservatively to go through the 400m in 4:13.29 but showed her fitness and strength by negative splitting the final 400m. Rio teammate Emma Robinson was fifth in 8:43.14.

Olympic individual medley debutant Bradlee Ashby was fourth in the 200m butterfly in 2:03.16

Of the other New Zealanders competing, Samantha Lee was seventh in the 100m butterfly in 1:01.39 and Julian Layton was third in the 200m breaststroke in 2:15.87.
