The start of something extraordinary

Workshops get clubs on track for sustainable future

A partnership between Swimming Wellington and Sport Wellington is working on assisting clubs in the region to create sustainable futures.

The partnership aimed to create a way to provide the volunteers that run these clubs with the knowledge and tools to help them take their clubs forward.

Club Chairs and Management Committee members from 13 clubs in the region are now part way through completing four workshops facilitated by Sport Wellington’s Kevin Wilson.

The workshop series is about sharing, networking and building capability around good Governance, what constitutes a good club, the biggest challenges facing swimming, strategic and operational planning, volunteers, Trusts and sponsorship, and much more.

The interactive workshops are providing practical tools on strategic planning, succession planning, financial management and community engagement for clubs to become more efficient and effective.

The first two workshops have already taken place with Sport Wellington’s facilitator Kevin Wilson saying, “the openness, sharing, commitment and energy displayed by the attendees has been awesome. I really do feel that together we are making a significant difference and that swimming in the region will be better placed to progress the sport, while at the same time the many hard working volunteer committees will enjoy carrying out their responsibilities more than ever before”.

The final two workshops in the series will take place on 27 July and 17 August.
