The start of something extraordinary

SNZ and Harbour Sport introduce bilingual swim teacher course

Swimming New Zealand, in partnership with Harbour Sport and with the support of Southern Trust, are excited to announce a new ActivAsian project providing training and support for bilingual individuals to become swim teachers.

It is recognised that water safety knowledge and skills are often lacking in the Asian communities and it is hoped by training bilingual swim teachers, swim schools will be able to engage staff who are equipped to provide aquatic education to their diverse communities.

The project has been driven by Jenny Lim, Harbour Sport, Sport Capability Project Manager – KiwiSport and ActivAsian and has spaces for up to 40 trainees from the North Harbour and Counties Manukau regions of Auckland.

The trainees will receive instruction and guidance to complete the Swimming New Zealand Swim Teacher Award and the National Certificate in Recreation and Sport (Aquatics) Swim Education and several Swimming New Zealand Quality Swim Schools have agreed to provide opportunities to complete the on-job requirements of the award.

If you are fluent in English as well as either Chinese or Korean, and have an interest in becoming a swim teacher please contact
