The start of something extraordinary

Simpson completes campaign

Christchurch’s Cameron Simpson has finished fifth in the 50m freestyle on the final day of open competition at the Queensland Swimming Championships in Brisbane.

The Gold Coast-based Simpson qualified sixth fastest in 23.20, and went slightly faster in 23.19 to finish fifth in the final.

World championship medallist Kenneth To won in 22.60.

The championships completed a three-week training camp for the New Zealand high performance team who return to New Zealand for a short break before setting their sights on a massive 2014 campaign that includes the Open Championship Trials in April, Commonwealth Games in Glasgow late July, Youth Olympics in China, Pan Pacific Championships in Queensland and Junior Pan Pacifics in Hawaii all in August, and the World Short Course Championships in Doha in December.
