The start of something extraordinary

Spotlight on Quality Swim Schools – BaySwim

BaySwim has been a Swimming New Zealand Quality Swim School for many years and this year became a bronze level Quality Swim School.

Based out of two Tauranga facilities; Baywave TECT Aquatic & Leisure Centre and Greerton Aquatic & Leisure Centre, the swim school follow Northern Arena's Learn to Swim Programme.

They put a strong emphasis on water safety, good swimming technique, confidence building and fun!

BaySwim caters for all ages and abilities through their programmes for AquaBabes (3-36months), Pre School, School Age and Adults and in partnership with Northern Arena and McLeods, are offering free lessons to Aquababes for their third quarter at both sites for the second year in a row.

In July 2016 the Greerton Swimming Pools were closed so that a major upgrade could take place, providing some great benefits for the swim school.

The project saw all the concrete polished in the pools, along with repainting and an upgrade to the filtration system in the learners' pool so it can be heated 32.5 degrees, compared to the previous 28 degrees.

Greerton pool now has three pools with one a dedicated teaching pool for BaySwim that has colourful stickers on the floor, a great teaching tool, with up to five classes being able to be taught in the pool at any one time with great utilisation of lane ropes.

The young swimmers and parents both very pleased and excited with the revamp.

“The new pool is amazing. Love the idea that the little ones can now touch the bottom and that it’s nice and warm for them,” Nikki Childs.

“My son was excited to be in the newly revamped and now warm shallower pool for his lessons. There is also a lot more seating available for parents watching,” Moira Perry.
