Medals and a record for kiwis at Aussie Age Group Champs

Young Tasman swimmer Sam McKenzie had an impressive day at the pool in the third day of the Australian Age Group Championships being held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre this week.

McKenzie, 14, took home a silver medal in the boy’s 14 year old 100m freestyle and broke the New Zealand Age Group record twice in one day.

Producing a personal best in the morning heats session to break the record by just three hundredths of a second with a time of 53.79 he then went on to better it again in the finals finishing in 53.50.

Standout performer from the first days of competition, Mya Rasmussen, also produced a silver medal performance yesterday.

The Kiwi West Aquatics swimmer finishing second in the women’s 12-13 years 800m freestyle in a time of 9:13.18.

Both McKenzie and Rasmussen will be in action again today hoping to add more successes to their list at this meet.

The New Zealand swimmers will finish competing this Saturday.
