The start of something extraordinary

Open water swimmers test against the best in Canada

Open water swimmers Kane Radford and Charlotte Webby will begin their race preparation for the Pan Pacific Championships when they compete in the next stages of the FINA 10km Open Water World Cup.

The World Cup will provide the pair with an opportunity for some tough racing and a chance to compete against some of their rivals who will also be at Pan Pacs in Australia next month.

The FINA 10km World Cup comprises seven meets throughout the year at various locations with the next three to be held in Canada.

Radford and Webby will be joined by fellow Kiwi open water swimmer Troy Balvert in the next two stages of the Open Water World Cup, the first taking place July 24 at Lake St. Jean and the second on August 1 at Lake Magog.

The upcoming stage at Lake St. Jean has attracted 42 competitors from 13 countries. Radford will also compete in the third stage in Canada on August 9 at Lake Megnatic.

Open water coach Sue Southgate said the team are in good spirits and can’t wait to go racing.

The Pan Pacific Championships open water event will take place on 25 August from the Southport Marine Stadium, Gold Coast, Australia.
