Medal Success For Swim Rotorua at NZSC Champs

 

Swim Rotorua athletes returned from the National Aquatic Centre with a total of eleven National Age Group Medals from the National New Zealand Short Course Championships 2016.

Bianca Donelley topped the medal count with one gold (100 free), three silver and four bronze medals. James Baldwin sprinted his way to a silver medal (50 free) with Milla Theobald winning  two bronze medals (400m and 800m freestyle).

 

    


David Boles (16) raced to a 4th ranking in the 1500 Free in a personal best time with an 8th National Age ranking in the 200 Fly, also securing top 10 finishes in the 200IM and 200 breast.
Damon Cowie (14) returns home with top 10 National Age Group rankings in the 100 breast, 400IM, 50 breast, 200 breast and the 200 Fly. 
Skye Cox (14) posted a personal best in the 50 Backstroke and at her first Nationals had a Top 16 placing in all three entered events.
Kaira Cox (16) also experienced her first National Short Course Championship in the 100 back, 50 back and 100 freestyle events.

Emily Spear showed determination in her freestyle events.

Paddy Baylis raced hard but was forced to retire due to illness - but not before posting top ten finishes in the 400IM and 400 Freestyle.

The week drew to a close with an ice skating session - which the whole team survived remarkably without injury!
