China claimed its first ever gold medal in the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swimming World Cup history as Xin Xin, 20, arrived first in 2h05m55s8 on home soil on Sunday October 9, at the sixth meet of the Series in Chun'An (CHN).
The young local swimmer defeated Argentina's Cecilia Biagioli (2h06m37s1, silver) as well as previous leg's winner (Lac Megantic) Arianna Bridi (ITA) who ended up with a bronze medal.
Among the female participants taking the departure in Chun'An were experienced and multi-medallists Rachele Bruni (ITA, 4th), and Brazil's Poliana Okimoto (5th) and Ana Marcela Cunha (6th).
In the men's race, Italy's Simone Ruffini, who has been pretty consistent this season (2nd in Viedma, 3rd in Abu Dhabi and 1st in Balatonfured), earned gold in 1h56m01s3, while Andreas Waschburger (GER) touched home after him and Brazil's Allan Do Carmo took bronze.
The seventh and last leg of the FINA/HOSA Marathon Swimming World Cup will be held in Hong-Kong on October 15.
