The start of something extraordinary

Junior Squad

Junior Squad is designed for the club’s beginning level competitive swimmer's age 12 and under who wish to make more of a commitment to the sport of swimming.  Trainings are designed to be fun while teaching the fundamentals of competitive swimming, including all four competitive strokes, streamlining, racing starts and turns.  Coaches will instruct proper training habits and behaviour along with lane etiquette.  Here they are exposed to their first dry land training.  This is more loosely structured than the next levels in order to promote fun while learning some basic athletic movements that all kids should be able to perform.

Junior Performance

Junior Performance is the club’s top Junior aged squad ideally designed for swimmers before high school.  These are the Junior swimmers who have mastered the fundamentals of the four competitive strokes as well as the skills involved with training and racing.  Each training is designed to continue to develop and refine stroke mechanics and skills.  Junior Performance is where we begin to introduce the building of the athlete in the water by training the energy systems at a very low level, while the focus remains more education based.  Emphasis is still more upon stroke and competitive skill development directly applicable to racing than these energy systems.  Training procedures, such as using a pace clock throughout a more varied and complex set, training skills and knowledge are a major goal.  A high priority is given to a strong knowledge foundation for future development.  Baseline dry land training moves from more fun and play based into more structured strengthening and athletic development while keeping that fun factor.

Senior Transition

Senior Transition is composed of the club’s swimmers who have moved from Junior performance and are new to age group ranks. Swimmers in this group strive to advance to the Senior Squad. Trainings emphasise stroke and competitive skill development to a very advanced level. A high priority is also placed upon the knowledge and physiological needs of the young developing athlete. We build them up in a manner that is sheltered from the more intensive Senior Squad sessions throughout the week. A more advanced dry land conditioning program is a part of training to promote core, flexibility, strength and athleticism. These swimmers carry out a regular schedule of meets including local, regional and potentially national level.

Senior Squad

Senior Squad is designed to prepare older athletes with a sincere dedication to the sport.  All members of this squad are progressing towards swimming Age Group or Division 2 Nationals.  A proven commitment to training is necessary as a first step to be a considered a member of this group.  Skill development will continue to be refined with an increased emphasis on challenging aerobic and anaerobic training.  This group is for the serious and committed swimmer who demonstrates that they are ready for elite level training.  A demanding dry land conditioning program is an integral part of training.  Athletes in this group compete in local, regional and national meets, eventually targeting international meets such as the Victoria Age Champs we attended in 2013.
