Head Coach - Richard Gheel

Richard Gheel is the head coach at the swimming club and currently coaches all groups.

Richard come from Omagh in Northern Ireland.

As a swimmer he represented Ireland in the 1988 Olympics and was a triple Commonwealth games competitor in 1986, 1990 and 1994.

He has competed twice at the world students games in Sheffield, England and Buffalo, New York.

He was a student at the Universtiy of Alabam and competed at the NCAA Championships.

Richard has been coaching for 20 years and in the at time has placed swimmers into National teams at the World Junior Championships, Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Youth Games and European Youth Games. The swimmers he has coached have won nation youth and senior titles in England, Ireland, Scotland and British Campionships.

As a club we are very fortunate to have Richard. He has moved to New Zeland for a lifestyle change. He loves working with new swimmers starting with basic stroke correction and watching them reach their full potential as a swimmer.
