Exciting journey ahead for soon to be swim teachers

Soon to be swim teachers from Napier, Hastings, Bulls and Tauranga travelled to attend a recent Swim Teacher Award course held at Waterworld Flaxmere, Hastings.

The Swimming New Zealand Swim Teacher Award (SNZ STA) course is nationally recognised as a work based training programme developed to train people in the community to teach swimming and water safety skills.    

The course, hosted by SNZ Education Advisor Erin Fowler covered how people learn, teaching and learning styles and effective communication, health and safety requirements in and around the aquatic environment, the progressions of learn to swim and provides the tools to assist in the planning and delivering an effective swimming lesson.

Upon completion of the SNZ STA requirements participants receive the National Certificate in Recreation and Sport – Aquatics, Swim Education which includes 43 level 3 credits.

After a successful course the participants will now need to complete their post course requirements to receive the Award.

“I am very excited to start my journey into the industry after this course,” said one of the participants.
