The start of something extraordinary

NZ official appointed to Para Swimming World Championships

Northland official Carlrine Gillespie has been selected for the Mexico City 2017 World Para Swimming Championships.

Carlrine last year completed an IPC technical official training course in Singapore to become just the fourth IPC qualified technical official in New Zealand.

The World Para Swimming Championships will be her first international IPC appointment since completing the qualification.

“I’m a bit gobsmacked to be honest,” Carlrine said. “Really excited (but nervous) and proud to have been selected.”

“It has been an awesome start to the year with this appointment and also being accepted to the FINA Referee List 19.”

“It’s fantastic to not only represent Swimming New Zealand and Paralympics New Zealand but my Region, Northland, and my home club, Dargaville.”

The Mexico City 2017 World Para Swimming Championship will be held from 30 September to 6 October.

Swimming New Zealand congratulates Carlrine on her appointment and wish her the best for the championship.
