The start of something extraordinary

Radford and Webby step it up at FINA 10km World Cup

Open Water swimmers Kane Radford and Charlotte Webby both had improved performances at the latest FINA 10km Marathon Open Water World Cup event at Lake Magog in Canada.

Radford (Rotorua) bettered his performance from a week ago in the World Cup by close to four seconds finishing 9th place in 1:55:18.66. He finished eight seconds behind race winner Alex Meyer (USA).

He will have another chance to get some race training in before the Pan Pacific Championships when he competes in the next leg of the World Cup on the 9th of August at Lake Megnatic in Canada.

Webby (Aquabladz) moved up to 7th from her 8th place finish last week completing the race in 2:06.50.76.

“The race was a lot more physical than last week but I was pleased with my improvement and managed to fix up a couple of changes that needed to be made from last week,” Webby said.

“I’m really looking forward to three weeks’ time at Pan Pacs Champs and know that it will be tough, but having done these two races I’m ready to give it my best shot.”

Also competing at the event was Troy Balvert (St Peters). Balvert couldn’t quite top off his 16th place finish from last week, coming in 21st in 1:59:50.77.
